The Eglinton Park Heritage Community Garden and Naturalization Site (at North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Avenue West) is a dream brought to life by the joint organizing efforts of Seeds of Diversity Canada and TGC, in partnership with City of Toronto Parks. Established in 1995, it is a delightful garden thriving with heritage flowers and vegetables, as well as native plants. For urban dwellers, it is a place to garden, learn, share and appreciate nature in the city.
The garden is home to a variety of fruit trees and shrubs, shiitake mushrooms, and showcases innovative container gardening techniques such as vertical potatoes and upside-down tomatoes. Garden tours and garden workshops on organic gardening, heritage seeds, composting, season extension, insects and various other topics are held throughout the summer. The garden also hosts our Great Garden Adventure program in the summer, which teaches kids 9 and under all about the bugs, plants, and ecosystems involved in growing food.
Garden Workbees take place every Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm and give city dwellers an opportunity to meet their community and learn innovative ways to grow food in the city.
